Job Title: Scientific Director
Responsible to: Head of Medical Communications
Responsible for: Scientific Services team

This leadership role oversees the Scientific Services team in the Medical Communications arm of WRG Healthcare. The Scientific Director is a key member of the Medical Communications leadership team, working alongside the Client Services, Multichannel and Commercial Directors. This is a senior role with high impact on the organisation.

• Oversight and management of scientific services across all accounts within the medical communications arm of WRG
• Overall responsibility for all scientific/medical/commercial content generated within the medical communications arm of WRG, acting as a final signatory
• Ability to develop excellent relationships with cross-functional client stakeholders quickly, by demonstrating scientific credibility and utility as a strategic partner
• Ensure compliance of all activities and members of the scientific services team with relevant industry standards
• Develop a thorough knowledge of WRG products and services and how they will meet client needs. Generate potential new business leads for other internal departments by cross-selling to existing clients, where applicable
• Act as an internal Scientific Consultant to other departments with WRG, providing insight and expertise that can supplement existing internal capabilities, and provide scientific credibility to our work
• Adhere to all relevant industry guidelines and provide guidance to internal personnel on compliance related matters
• Adhere to WRG’s business code of conduct and comply with all regulatory Company policies and procedures
• Identify and provide training to other members of the WRG team, as required
• Participate and support the culture of WRG
• Ensure compliance to both our ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 20121 Sustainability Event Management System standards. • Educated to degree level in a biomedical science (PhD preferred)
• Medical writing experience in a global medical communications agency (minimum 6 years), with at least 1 year in a similar position
• Proven ability to provide scientific and commercial insights across multiple therapy areas and sectors within the pharmaceutical industry
• Proven experience in delivering high quality materials across the full spectrum of medical communications activities
• Pivotal role in new business development, including proposal development and pitching
• Ability to act authoritatively and effectively across medical and commercial functions, interacting with high-level senior clients and TAEs
• History of leading scientific delivery teams effectively, including resourcing, quality control and scientific/commercial accuracy
• Line management experience
• Strong project management and organisation skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• High level of IT competence, including Microsoft Office

• Direct the Scientific Services team to ensure the team deliver commercial and medical communication projects to the highest standards of quality control and client service
• Plan and manage resource across the scientific services team, delegating to other members of the team and utilising freelance resource where necessary
• Write, support and/or manage the delivery of defined activities
• Final signatory for all content before distribution to clients
• Work alongside the Client Services, Multichannel and Commercial Directors to provide clients with innovative medical communications solutions
• Monitor commercial market and therapeutic landscape relevant to our clients and their products, and provide insight/updates/interpretation to internal team members and to our clients as appropriate
• Keep up-to-date with industry best practice and regulations applicable to WRG and our clients
• Demonstrate a commitment to share information and insight on your accounts across other teams and departments within the business
• Develop excellent relationships with cross-functional client team members, attaining a positon as a strategic partner
• Develop positive relationships with TAEs
• Work alongside client services and contribute to annual account planning and financial forecasting
• Input, review and sign-off for client budgets and timelines
• Provide constructive feedback and suggestions to other team members, fostering an environment of open collaboration and team work
